project

About
the project

Elmwood is a newly redeveloped community hub space located at 140 Elmwood Ave in North Bay, ON. We are committed to ensuring that our community has dedicated and easy access to programs and services, building resilience within local families. In this effort, Elmwood is undergoing a large redevelopment in 2023/2024 to expand and upgrade the space of a former public school.

The redevelopment will help bridge a gap in the community by offering much-needed shared space where we can grow together. The expansion will include the addition of a community kitchen, tech lab, boardroom, youth art studio and quiet lounge as well as renovations to the existing Beauchamp Youth Hub, youth pantry, clothing boutique and gymnasium. In collaboration with and thanks to the support of local partners we are making these spaces available for booking by residents and partner organizations. These expansions are poised to provide a revitalized and youth-driven design, creating a vibrant hub for youth and community programming.

Elmwood is designed to promote positivity and collaboration among groups, families, and youth in addition to supporting the growth and success of local partners. The multi-use hub space will unite health, education, safety, mental health and early intervention services all under one roof, strengthening the community and better servicing the needs of Northern Ontario residents as well as partner organizations. Elmwood will have something for people of all ages!

The Vision

Our experiences shape our memories and our understanding of ourselves within our world.

We want to create experiences that are not about service, but about feeling a connection to nature, the community, and family. These are the memories and connections that will create positive foundations that hopefully, last a lifetime.

Our Objectives

To integrate the voice and perspective of our community in the spaces we use, services we offer, and lifelong connections we make.

More spaces mean more services and less appointments! Many people in our community face barriers to accessing multiple services and co-location helps reduce those barriers.

growth

Through partnerships with The Gathering Place and other community organizations not only are we growing food but we are also growing our knowledge around sustainable food practices and eco-friendly ways of keeping our community and planet green!

positivity

A beautifully renovated facility will radiate positivity and generate memorable experiences for families, youth and the community.

safety icon

safety

By offering safe spaces for our community members to gather and take part in prevention and early intervention services we are increasing personal and public safety for the children, youth and families in our city.

“I have been truly impressed by the passion everyone at the Children’s Aid has for helping youth in the community and I am excited about supporting them to expand reach and services.  The Hub already offers a wide range of programs and services designed to help young people reach their full potential. From mentorship programs to everyday life skills and support, job search workshops and more, there is something for every young person in need. The staff at the hub are truly dedicated to helping these young people succeed and it's been amazing to see the impact they have already had. With the expansion the Hub will be positioned to help so many more youth and expand its impact to the broader North Bay community with additional programs and services.”
